Waste Tank Maintenance

The importance of maintaining and up keep of your waste tank is a vital part of owning a restroom trailer. First and foremost, before every install and waste tank pumping be sure that your holding tank has been “charged”, meaning that the bottom of the waste tank should have approximately a half inch of water that has been treated with deodorizing packets at the ratio of one to two packets per toilet.  This is a vital step and must not be overlooked, not “charging “your tank can cause “mounding” issues under the toilets. It is best to refer to your owner’s manual to find the charge scale for your trailer length.

Emptying your waste tank is another important step that you do not want to skip, transporting your trailer with liquid in the tank is dangerous. The dump valve on most Lang Trailer models will be located in the front of the trailer near the tongue. Make sure to refer to your manual for the proper steps to take for emptying your waste tank.  Also keep in mind that your waste tank should be cleaned at least once a month. Depending on the model of trailer you own, there are few steps to clean the waste tank properly, refer to your owner’s manual for proper direction on how your specific model should be cleaned.

Winterization of your waste tank is another vital step to maintaining your waste tank. If you will be storing your restroom trailer in below freezing temperatures, you will need to make sure that all of the water is removed from your tank. Drain the tank and leave the dump valve open to avoid potential freezing in the valve.  You will want to then raise the tongue jack so any remaining water in the waste tank does not get into the dump valve potentially causing it to crack if frozen. Raising the front of the trailer higher than the back will keep any water that is left over in the waste holding tank or water that may enter from the vent stack to the rear of the tank and away from the dump valve, where it may freeze and rupture if the temperatures were to drop below freezing possibly causing untimely and costly repairs.
