How to Select The Right Restroom Trailer for an Event

There are many factors that determine the size restroom trailer needed for an event.  It is important to discuss a customer’s event with them to make sure you are quoting them the proper size or number of restroom trailers. questions you should be asking:

How many people are you expecting?

This question is not the only question you need to ask to determine restroom trailer size for an event but it is probably the most important one and the one used to give a quick quote on a restroom trailer size.  In general, you can use the below chart to size trailers for events that are 6 hours or less.

2 Station Restroom Trailer                            Up to 150 people

5 Station Restroom Trailer                            Up to 300 people

9 Station Restroom Trailer                            Up to 400 people

What type of event are you having?

The type of event is important when determining restroom trailer size and style needed.  For example, a 300-person wedding vs a commercial remodel for a store that sees 300 customers a day.  Chances are a restroom trailer at a wedding will have a lot more usage than a trailer being used on a remodel.  Even if the total “guest count” is the same between the wedding and the remodel the usage at the remodel will be spread out over a longer period of time which may allow you to use a smaller trailer.  Often the waste tank size is not the limiting factor for events, it is the number of stalls needed so that lines for people waiting to use the trailer do not get to long.

How many hours / days will the trailer be in use?

The above usage chart is based on events that are 6 hours or less.  So how do we size a trailer for an all-day event or a multiple day event?

Example 1.  A 200-person wedding that wants to use the trailer for a 6-hour wedding on Saturday and then plans on having brunch on Sunday for about 75 people.  In this scenario the 5-station restroom trailer in most cases should be sufficient with no servicing between events.

Example 2. You rent a 5-station restroom trailer to a venue that is holding a 250-person wedding on Saturday and 150-person wedding on Sunday.  In this scenario you want to have the trailer serviced in between events so you are sure there is enough tank capacity for the second event.

Example 3. You are supplying the restroom trailers for the VIP area for an airshow, this is a two-day event that is 8 hours a day.  They are expecting roughly 1,000 in this area for each day and there will be alcohol served.  They tell you they have port-a-johns in the VIP area as well so they are not worried about having enough capacity in the trailers for all 1,000 people.

Even though you have been told not to worry about sizing the trailers to handle the entire VIP crowd because port – a – johns will be used in the area as well you will want to size the trailer to the entire crowd size.  If there are restroom trailers and port-a-johns side by side nobody will use the port-a-johns and your trailers will be overwhelmed.  In this application I would use two 9-station trailers and service them between days.  It is also important to make sure they are placed where they will get equal usage.

Is there Alcohol being served at the event?

Alcohol at an event will greatly affect the size of the trailer needed.  If it is a dry event you can push the limits of the included chart.  If there is alcohol be conservative in sizing your trailer based on the chart.

What is the layout of your event?

If you have an event that covers a large area you may want to consider using multiple small trailers rather than one large trailer.  An example of this would be a 375-person tented wedding that has a cocktail area in one tent and then the reception in another tent.  A 9-station trailer is perfectly sized for this event but you may be better off using two 5 stations with one placed near the cocktail area and the second near the reception area.
